Yay. Its school holiday NOT.
I'm not complaining, no I'm not, seriously because days like this would definitely be missed after graduation and what not.
I start to enjoy late night session(not exactly very late) but long hours of discussion.
We slept thinking about it, we wake up discussing about it.
I met really awesome friends here and you can tell because we are so direct and we hide no things from one another.

That aside, I am a down right a noob in booking air tickets, insurances and stuffs related to traveling.
But thank goodness, I learn them.
A little happy inside because i felt like I grow up a little.
DON'T LAUGH.
Its true you know, it just felt like the first time I went home by myself, the first time I took a public transport home by myself and I am sure you feel a little scare yet happy inside cus you manage to do it and it felt like you just grew up a little too.

Anyhow, I think I need to start intensive exercising soon. Like probably today or tomorrow provided I'm not out for meetings. Cellulite, fats and what not is attacking me like a fat balloon already.

I'm all excited for BKK next week(pardon my noobness) for 4 days and Australia in 2 months time for 3 weeks! So glad that I will be traveling more than usual this year and it calls for a CELEBRATION - like a ties in with my graduation in july! All happy and hope nothing goes wrong.

The International Typographic Style, also known as the Swiss Style, is a graphic design style developed in Switzerland in the 1950s that emphasizes cleanliness, readability and objectivity. Interesting video i happen to chance upon, not so much about the content but i really like how the paper cutting make wonders in here. Love paper cut to bits. Kinda make me miss messing around with it.

I'm sucha book sucker recently, notebook, organizer and what not.

Gotten my 2012 organizer way before December because i still remember i was eyeing on this really cool one last year but didn't get it because i thought it was still early and when i went back its gone.
Didn't regret though it was a little expensive.
I'll need to look at it for a year, so its a rather good investment!

ART VS. DESIGN

I have read so many books and articles on design and on art, what it is and how it should be executed. I must admit that since becoming a producer my designing days have taken a backseat to management. I enjoyed being a designer and now I enjoy working with designers in addition to every other aspect of production. I was at home contemplating what the difference between design and art is, and I think I have come up with some pretty clear lines between the two and have also identified where those lines have become blurred.

Now, it is my understanding that design in the commercial sense is a very calculated and defined process; it is discussed amongst a group and implemented taking careful steps to make sure the objectives of the project are met. A designer is similar to an engineer in that respect and must not only have an eye for color and style but must adhere to very intricate functional details that will meet the objectives of the project. The word “design” lends itself to a hint that someone or something has carefully created this “thing” and much planning and thought has been executed to produce the imagery or materials used for the project.

On the other hand, art is something completely separate—any good artist should convey a message or inspire an emotion it doesn't have to adhere to any specific rules, the artist is creating his own rules. Art is something that can elicit a single thought or feeling such as simplicity or strength, love or pain and the composition simply flows from the hand of the artist. The artist is free to express themselves in any medium and color scheme, using any number of methods to convey their message. No artist ever has to explain why they did something a certain way other than that this is what they felt would best portray the feeling or emotion or message.

Many designers are artists and many artists are designers, the line between the two is complex and intriguing. I was perusing some art books and something strange caught my eye, I had noticed that many of the artists were not creating a unique, almost chaotic portrait of their innermost selves or inspirations rather they were clearly using popular trends to capture the attention of the viewer. I noticed that many of the pieces being shown were “throwbacks” of past artists styles or color and simply refreshed for public consumption. The very fact that older artists inspire newer artists seems to contradict the whole definition of art. These artists are following a method, a pattern or a standard that has already been established by another artist and therefore they are not creating something completely new rather following instructions laid down by a previous artist rendering that piece to be more design than art.

I can completely appreciate the paths laid down by past artists who establish a style or method but at this point it seems that when that style or method is used the art then turns into design. I looked through some older books and saw a rather obvious occurrence in the art being displayed, many of the newer artists were simply copying things from the past. I admire a person's talent for picking up a brush and creating an image that has an impact on its viewer but when I see it over and over again by different people who are all claiming to be “of the school of...,” and that this is legitimate, unique art, I find that a bit hard to swallow. If the artist said, “I have designed something in the standard of Picasso,” and this is simply a design based on his style but a new twist has been added, then I would feel more comfortable accepting it for what it is, a design. But when an artist's style and methods are completely the same as someone else's and even if the message is different I feel that this cannot be passed off as art because the newness and the chaotic nature of it simply flowing from the source seems to be absent and it becomes more like a paint by numbers project than a creation that has never been seen before.

I do not claim to be an expert on defining what art is and what it is not, but I do know that if we look at the differences between art and design we will see a very clear line drawn between the two. An engineer, if given the exact coordinates to place different colored pixels in specific places, could render a beautiful website or ad simply by following instructions; most design projects have a detailed set of instructions and most design is based on current trends and influences. An artist, on the other hand, could never be given any specific instructions in creating a new chaotic and unique masterpiece because his emotions and soul is dictating the movement of his hands and the impulses for the usage of the medium. No art director is going to yell at an artist for producing something completely unique because that is what makes an artist an artist and not a designer.

I feel that designers who are passionate about their work should try and dedicate time to create “art” for art's sake and train themselves to express emotion and feeling through their designs. Uniqueness comes from passion and not adhering to any rules that may force the artist to make even one stroke that was unintended. Commercialism has been dictating the course of design and has made a clear and thick line between the artist and the designer. Following trends and applying imagery based on specific needs and goals is the easy part, allowing yourself to express a message or emotion free of any specifications is where true beauty is born. Designers who are looking for the next big trend or who want to be the one to create that trend must create chaotic and truly original pieces to display their artistic prowess and then apply those unique methods to their design at work, and I think this will create a truly harmonious balance between art and design.

I don't know why the first day of school seems so boring, dry and monotonous.

We are gonna have communication studies for the first 2 week.

I don't know if i should feel happy or mad.

I'm mad because I feel like i was thrown a book that i am reluctant to read.

All we do in class today is read.

All i see is text text and more wordy text.

I tried so hard to bring myself in,

Frankly, only <5% gotten into my head.

Amazing Colour Pencil Art

Jennifer Maestre is a Massachusetts-based artist, internationally known for her unique pencil sculptures.She is a graduate of Wellesley College and holds a BFA degree from the Massachusetts College of Art.

She derives most of her inspiration from the form and texture of the sea urchin. To make the pencil sculptures, Jennifer makes use of a variety pencils, nails and stitching. She takes hundreds of pencils, cuts them into small 1-inch sections, drills a hole in each section, sharpens them all and sews them together.

She sold her first sculpture in 1999 through Mobilia Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, after they saw her work at a local art festival. "They contacted me and said, ‘Oh, we want to represent you. Will you bring your work down?’ I thought it was a joke," Maestre says. Today, the gallery handles her art exclusively and the artist gets e-mails from people all over the world who want to commission her work. So much into design.

Holding onto a design book, deep thoughts came striking right into my mind.

Something I felt that I needed to tell someone about how I feel right at that moment last night before i turn in. So i did.

It's fate that brought me to the design design.

The last resort i always ended up to is design.

Design is like the one and only skill and profession I have and something that is so deeply rooted.

Without design I'm nothing.

Design gives me life and it have gradually becomes very part of my life.

Sometimes i am thankful of how i came through so far going through all the bumps.

It's like an ingrown love.

From someone who know nuts and gone through all the criticism and hard work, i came so far.

It's like a love/hate relationship.

But i gotta say, i love it more than i hate it.

I see people earning like 10+k a month at my age owning a bmw and I am still here doing design earning near to a zero dollar i felt so ashamed of myself.

But hey, think again, at least i know my path now, i dont care how much people actually earn now.

It's what I wanna see myself 10 years down the road.

I know the answer to this question, who doesn't want to earn more?

Yes, obviously everyone does, I am no exception, but after doing what you truly like, you know you money doesn't really matter anymore.

I don't know if this is call passion but I guess somehow this is it.

Sounds like some hypnosis that someone did to me, but heaven no.

I have met people whom I'm glad i talk to, like an insurance & property personnel.

I have no idea why they like to brag about how well they have been doing or how much award they have won but i respect and believe this is the way how their industry works.

They only make me feel more firm about my decision of a profession as a designer.

Simple gesture tells me you are not professional enough.

You can earn 15k a month at my age but you don't know what is manners, i look down on you.

Thanks for making me realize how important simple gesture can actually reflect your personality.

I don't have to be part of them to learn priceless lessons from them.

Life have been fair too bland

Finding your ideal job in the design profession isn’t easy, so to help, I asked a number of design employers to give advice to job applicants. The first in the series is kindly contributed by Eric Karjaluoto, partner and creative director at Vancouver-based smashLAB.

Oodles… That’s the best term I can use to describe the number of aspiring designers out there. We haven’t seen less than a hundred applicants for any designer position posted at smashLAB. (Ever.) From a strict supply-and-demand standpoint, this allows employers like me to take my pick of the bunch. Here’s what I look for:

The book: Although it’s rarely a physical book any longer, the first thing I look for in a designer is a visual sensibility. While I’d like to tell you that I pour a cup of tea and gingerly peruse someone’s design samples, the opposite is the case. Typically, it takes me less than 15 seconds to determine whether a portfolio warrants further inspection. While I don’t have a bias to any particular style of work, I do look for a certain amount of professionalism and depth.

Editing: I lied about my first point. The very first thing I look at is the resume. What may be different from what you’d expect, though, is that I consider it from a design standpoint. Yes, the credentials and work experience are important, but I’m more interested in what a designer has chosen to say about him/herself, and how appropriately they can craft this (deceptively complex) marketing tool.

Big picture and close-ups: Good designers tend to be able to step back from a situation and consider the bigger problem before getting carried away with execution. As a result, they are able to articulate their thinking behind a project in a coherent fashion; meanwhile, they know when to finesse details, run spell-checks, and sweat all the other (seemingly) small stuff. Both are equally important points to pay attention to, and it’s awfully easy to spot which designers are attuned to them and which are not.

The person: I need to be able to work efficiently with the people I hire. While we needn’t be the best of friends, it does mean we have to be able to maintain an open and healthy dialogue. The designers who are most apt to communicate/interact in such a way tend to be thoughtful, considerate, and not overly wrapped up in ego. They are largely interested in learning and honing their craft. When we started smashLAB, I struggled with this point, sometimes hiring the wrong people, and we suffered for it. Now, I more quickly flush-out applicants who seem to be a poor fit. Doing so has resulted in an exemplary team at smashLAB, which I’m very proud to work with.

Commitment: Design isn’t like other jobs. In order to be any good at it, you really have to put in your time. For experienced designers, the result of doing so is typically reflected in their portfolios. Young designers, however, generally haven’t had sufficient time to cultivate a solid body of work; therefore, they tend to be a bit of a gamble and are hired on a bit of a hunch. Once in the door, the real interview begins. Now, they need to prove to me that they’re worth the investment I’m making in them (many of my colleagues note feeling the same way). If you’re a new designer in your first professional role, I encourage you to be the first one in, the last to leave, and while you’re there, work your ass off. If you aren’t absolutely committed to your career, I’ll come to the conclusion that I shouldn’t be either.

Up and running real early today, objective is to train up for the upcoming marathon and obviously trying to tone up all my expired flabby arms and legs. Just as i thought, i couldn't really breathe through my nostril. so i practically walk more than half of the journey.

Babysit like the usual and off I'm out for work, sourcing for freelance materials and quotations.

Then, obviously the most lovable part is dinner with the family.

What do i want to achieve in life?

What do i aspire to be?

You know I've started my online shop few months ago and I really have to say it's tough.

I can't stop questioning myself how bad i look on screen, like fat and all, would people really buy my apparels?

I come to a conclusion that, yes, i am right.

Reality is NO.

Everyone sees pretty girls and obviously they are attracted to it, they sell better.

No matter how hard i try, confidence level is going down down down.

I can never succeed with no manpower, not enough captial to kick off this online shop thingy.

Furthermore, i really dislike how people judge me on screen.

Yes, it all relate back to the 3 question above.

1) I have no idea how would life be after i graduated because im not a fortune teller and i can't predict.

All i know is, i am so gonna go out there to work my ass off be glad that i have a job and giving the best out of it. (Screw all the politics because I know there will bound to have) I need to learn how to stand up for myself and one word to sum it up, I need to BEAR with all the nonsensical stuff. Good things will come my way eventually. I always love this quote and i can't stop using it 'There will always be sunshine after rain'. I totally believe it.

2)What do I want to achieve in life?

The most tedious question, I know it might not be exactly what i want in future.

But what i can say now is, I just want to have a company of my own just like many others.

and a simple house of my own in future.

3) What do i aspire to be?

I'm ready to go out and kick some ass. As harsh as it sounds like, the reality is harsh.

Experienced and proven.

That explains my personality.

Even there are real good deal, i will go like are you sure? Nothing is free in this world.

Side track abit, Sissy and i was chatting yesterday about how people won like tons of lottery, both of us think that, one day, god will strip everything off them to take back what is given.

I don't trust anyone so easily.

Not to worry, I know my dearest classmates are all nice, i totally trust them becasuse i know we are all hungry to learn from one another. People that we can even be closely knitted friends. *hint*hint* I totally love #Bagus okay, no doubts. Who i meant was those people out there in the industry.

I might seems very pessimistic.

But I have to emphasis, this is reality.

Protect yourself because no one actually does care about you.

Hello!

Just got back from the zoo with mum, sis, randy and brother in law few hours ago!

Was pretty fun although it's just another visit to the Singapore Zoo.

The progress is a uber tough.

Bought alot of wrong material and wasted alot of money for this concertina fold brochure.

I have totally no time to do so, a little break today so here i am blogging.

have been "mugging" in starbucks with my dear #bagus to complete our assignments and they have been really awesome to begin with.

When you are most down and pms-ing the entire day, they encourage and helped me along the way, they even limit me to stop work at about 2am to sleep.

i know i have been lacking of updates, all because of the amount of projects piling up and coming up one after another is killing me slowly. School have not been treating me well. But whatever it is, today is one submission, meaning one burden down and typography project up next follow by e-folio project, and i don't know how am i gonna do the interactive e-folio project probably just a normal pdf file instead of those Suzie Zezula showed few days back.

Maybe sometimes i should talk less, listen more and smile more.

Other than schools and the awesome classmate i have that makes me day, life have been really hard for me lately. All sort of lame shit rubbish screwing up my life upside down. Seriously, I really got to admit when you grow up, you have much more things to deal with, it really restrict you from doing alot of stuffs. I really don't know where i could share all my sorrows with because bff are all not around. Thank god for Metta, my new classmate. Nevertheless, there are so much more left unsaid.

Sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can come together.

Back from the private sale, the sale was all well, tons of leather goods, i didn't get although i like them because the leather bags were a little too heavy, boyfriend say no point buying a bag that is already heavy. I told him, next time u carry for me, then he goes like, that's the reason i ask you not to buy. duh! okay, it sounds logical not to get one. I got a set of key per's collection 3 in 1 small pouches, have been eyeing on for quite sometime. Finally got one in a discounted price! Boyfriend bought tons of stuff.

We got 3 of the same bracelet of different colour and we are so in love with it! Its too lose on my wrist so boyfriend coil it up and it fits! The innovative us joined them up because they are magnetic, into a necklace and seriously, i love it to bits. Guess what! Its only 9$ each, retail price at 38$ each! muahahah!

I am so dead beat after school, work and more work piling up.

Gym session with sissy is a must these days to keep myself fit and AWAKE.

I realise if i do workout, i'll feel so much better, i mean inner self and i do feel much awake rather than sleepy and tucking in with tibits and unhealthy food.

Yes, very tired, force myself to complete each sets of exercise and yes, im proud to say i did it although i feel so lousy today.

I promise to start school work from today, no more dragging of school work after screwing up the previous assignment.

I am gonna plan my time well now.

Thankful im in a very inspirational group, i need to buck up.

Drunken prawn is my topic, i find so much fun exploring, i can't stop laughing how i imagine them being literally drunk. My aim is to make them alive!

Then again, work a is major headache, so many million little things to be complete, I need to settle them all by tomorrow.

4 hours is all i have and Yes, i am gonna complete it.

I even bring some back to do.

As many of you know, i am still in the dilemma of going or not.

I want the experience so desperately but yet i can't cope with my studies (after the 1st assignment phobia)

I feel so bad about it, but hell no, i am not forgoing my job all for the future sake.

can someone enlighten me?

can i have the best of both worlds?

I need 48 hours a day, can I?

On a lighter note, i see CY growing everyday, i am glad i made the right choice, till now.

I hope to see CY grow even better and i sincerely thank all my friend for the support, its never easy starting up and really, thank you, thank you so much. I promise to bring more awesome stuff for you lovely.
